TK Chan (b.1984) is a self-taught artist from Hong Kong who has developed a unique and diverse body of work by blending different artistic traditions and approaches: Western and Chinese. Chan's practice primarily involves contemporary Chinese ink-wash painting on Xuan paper, taking a minimalist approach to execution. She is known for her Chinese watercolor paintings of animals, particularly the signs of the Chinese zodiac.
Her paintings in the ‘Animals’, ‘Family’, and ‘World of Love' series feature animals with playful themes and elements of Kawaii art: simplified facial expressions executed with a minimum of brush strokes on ink wash, and featuring big heads on small bodies that exude a child-like innocence. In a world filled with negativity and a constant barrage of conflict and stress, Chan's creations are a counterpoint exuding serenity and joy.
Chan's love for art started at a young age, and through experimentation and self-study, she has become a skilled painter in both Chinese ink and oils. During her studies in Scotland, Chan was captivated by the scenery and inspired to create artworks that captured the essence of the landscapes she saw. Upon her return to Hong Kong, she began to immortalize these memories in oil on canvas, a medium that she felt was in keeping with the scenery. Her ‘Scottish Landscape’ series features well-known landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle and Eileen Donan Castle as well as the wide-open vistas of the Scottish countryside and coastline.
After establishing her own art gallery, Chan was encouraged by Chinese multi-disciplinary artist Water Poon to experiment with Chinese ink. Rejecting traditional training as too confining, Chan struck out on her own, developing her unique practice that continues to this day.
Chan's artwork represents the intersection of different cultures and mediums, showcasing the beauty of both traditional Chinese ink painting and Western oil painting. Through her commitment to exploring new techniques and pushing the boundaries of her own practice, she has developed a distinct style that sets her apart as an artist. Her works have been acquired by a number of institutions including Po Leung Kuk (Hong Kong), Kingston Financial Group (Hong Kong), Super Star Group (Hong Kong), and Edinburgh Napier University (UK), and has recently been commissioned to create a series of works for the食好點 restaurant group in Shanghai (China). Her works have also been sold at auction, most recently in 2022 by Poly Auction, Xiamen (China), and by 33 Auction, Singapore.
Academically accomplished, Chan holds a MA in Curating and Art History from Lingnam University, Hong Kong, a MDes Interdisciplinary Design, and a BDes Design Futures both from Edinburgh Napier University, United Kingdom.
TK Chan is the co-founder and curator of BLINK Gallery Hong Kong, a member of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA), The Hong Kong St Andrew's Society, and the Hong Kong Society for Education in Art (HKSEA). Her works have been exhibited worldwide including Hong Kong, Shanghai (China), Singapore, London (UK), Edinburgh (UK), Cardiff (UK), Melbourne (Australia), and Jakarta (Indonesia).
TK Chan has recently been selected as one of four artists awarded an art studio space by the Hong Kong Art Development Council. With this opportunity, Chan aims to further develop her skills in oil painting and explore new techniques in composition and color. She looks forward to using the studio space to experiment with larger-scale pieces and push the boundaries of her artistic practice in this medium.
陳紫君小姐出生於香港，在學時期到了蘇格蘭發展10年，畢業於英國愛丁堡著名學府(Edinburgh Napier University)設計系碩士。2013年3月，陳紫君小姐與鍾臻智先生合作成立了香港齊亮畫廊(BLINK Gallery)。2017年創辦了藝術公司 1 TK。 紫君的作品曾於英國倫敦、愛丁堡及威爾士、香港、上海、廣州、新加坡、韓國、雅加達等多個地方展出，大受各地收藏家歡迎。2017年，TK入圍由英國文化協會舉辦的「英國傑出校友獎」。她現為英國Edinburgh Napier University 校友協調員 (亞洲)，為超過一萬多名香港和亞洲區的校友定期舉辦活動。她的作品 “雄雞家族” 、 “快樂狗” 、“十二生肖”分別於2017至2019年在新加坡33拍賣公司 (33 Auction) 成功拍出。此外，她的《獨角獸》及《友誼》也參加了保利廈門2019秋季拍賣會 (Poly Auction)。她也參與了保良局2017-2018年度及2020年度「V54年青藝術家駐留計劃」。2020年她更被邀請參加新世界設施管理有限公司的藝術家駐留計劃「Artist in Residence @ Y Lot」。 她現為蘇格蘭藝術家協會、香港聖安德魯社團、香港美術教育協會、The Hong Kong Highlanders 的會員。她希望透過她的創作，推廣愛護地球的訊息。
